Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to join our team. The ideal candidate will be strong in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, and updating patient information. You will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring that all processes are carried out with precision and care.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and store specimens following established procedures.

  • Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collections to patients.

  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

  • Understand and follow all physicians' orders.

  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

  • Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are correct.

  • Package specimens for transport.

  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures and in appropriate containers.

  • Follow specific protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.

  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

  • Attend annual department training sessions.

  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in blood draws, phlebotomy, and venipuncture.

  • Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients.

  • Ability to perform hard-sticks and heel sticks.

  • Certified Phlebotomist.

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab, ambulatory, or hospital setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Valid/active IL phlebotomy certification.

  • High draw volume experience.

  • Newborn/pediatric draw experience.

  • Bilingual in Spanish (nice to have).

Work Environment

This position requires the ability to float between various locations, including Gurnee (home base), Waukegan, North Chicago, Highland Park, Round Lake Beach, Zion, Libertyville, Deerfield, Kenosha, Hayward, Lake Forest, Grayslake, Lindenhurst, and Lake Bluff. The work schedule is Monday to Friday with shifts falling between 8 am and 8 pm, and rotating Saturdays (half-day shifts from 8 am to 12 pm, with one site having a full shift from 8 am to 4 pm). Candidates must be open to working a few Saturdays per month. Training will be conducted in Arlington Heights, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
