The Accountant - Africa is responsible for the overall accuracy and integrity of our financials across our Africa entities making sure our books comply with both US GAAP, local statutory requirements and management reporting.
This role will perform the Record to Report (R2R) function in Africa, which includes closing, balance sheet recon, cash flow management, and tax compliance work in a timely and accurate manner, business partnering with Africa
Commercial and Finance teams on any business decision making and ad hoc projects, establishing local policies and a solid internal control environment in Africa region, and improve accounting process efficiency and effectiveness
where there are opportunities.

What You Can Expect
Support financial accounting, reporting & analysis activities associated with the Africa Markets. This position furthermore includes monthly, quarterly, and annual year-end accounting and closing activities, as well as all
relevant ledger activities such as:
● Responsible for the overall accuracy and integrity of our Africa Area territories making sure our books comply with both US GAAP, local statutory requirements , and management reporting
● Business partnering with Africa Area Commercial and Finance teams.
● Improve accounting process efficiency and effectiveness where there are opportunities.
● Perform the relevant accounting function in Africa which includes closing, and balance sheet recon work in a timely and accurate manner.
SCOPE
This role will be based in India, primarily responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of Africa Area and local entity financial records comply with US GAAP, IFRS, tax regulations, and B-F internal policies and procedures.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to, partnering closely with the business by providing advice on accounting and compliance matters and leading the implementation of new systems, special projects, and accounting standards for the region. This position will also support Regional Controllers in process improvements and ad hoc analysis for these markets.
(A)Integrity of Financial Records
- Financial Data Accuracy
○ Assume responsibility for the accuracy off financial data for Africa's legal entities.
- Daily Accounting Support
○ Provide daily accounting support, including booking journal entries and ledger reconciliations.
○ Complete month-end close activities.
- Collaboration and Issue Resolution
○ Partner with the Africa area Finance and GBS team to highlight and resolve accounting issues.
○ Provide support and guidance to these teams.
- External Liaison
○ Liaise with external auditors and consultants for VAT, CIT, PAYE and compliance-related work.
- Efficiency and Resource Management
○ Monitor and analyze department work to develop efficient procedures.
○ Optimize resource use while maintaining high accuracy to enhance workflow.
- Policy Compliance
○ Ensure all journal entries comply with corporate financial policies and procedures.
○ Collaborate with the business employees to ensure compliance with policies like COUPA, CONCUR,
and the Purchasing Policy.
(B) Analysis & Business Partnering
- Financial Performance Analysis
○ Assist the Regional Controller and key commercial partners in providing a clear analysis of regional operations and financial performance.
- Cross-Department Coordination
○ Partner with Corporate Tax, Legal, Treasury teams, and accounting teams in other markets.
○ Coordinate procedures, reports, and financial activities to ensure accurate and compliant accounting
records.
- Compliance and Accuracy
○ Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax, and legal entity structures.
○ Coordinate with external parties and manage intercompany accounting.
- Quarterly Reconciliations and Analysis
○ Control quarterly reconciliations and analysis of corporate balance sheet accounts.
- Financial Inquiries and Reporting
○ Respond to inquiries from the Finance Director, Accounting Controller Group, and other managers
regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
- Business Partnership
○ Serve as a business partner to operating units.
○ Manage tight deadlines and various accounting activities, including month-end closing, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and support budget and inancial forecasting activities.
(C) Operational Support(R2R)
- Accounting Document Processing
○ Assist with processing and reconciling accounting documents (e.g., Consultants PO’s & invoices)
- Account Reconciliations
○ Perform monthly account reconciliations.
- Close Processes
○ Participate in monthly and year-end closing processes.
○ Ensure all expenses are valid and classify correctly.
○ Ensure that the books are Local and US GAAP compliant.
- Cross-Department Support
○ Collaborate with other departments as needed to support functions.
- Audit Support
○ Assist in external or internal audits.
○ Respond to inquiries regarding financial results or special reporting requests.
- Tax Support
○ Assist in handling VAT, WHT ,CIT & PAYE related matters timely and correctly by partnering with our tax consultants
○ Filing of VAT, WHT Returns
○ Complete CIT provision and tax packages
○ Be the point of contact for tax queries
- Payroll Support
○ Manage payroll related queries and liaison with the GBS team to resolve any potential issues.
(D) Special Projects
- Ad Hoc Requests
○ Handle ad hoc requests related to functional or regional activities.
- Process Improvement
○ Identify process improvements needs in the region.
○ Drive accounting process efficiency and effectiveness through liaison with key stakeholders.
○ Ensure robust internal control system for Africa offices
○ Responsible for training end users on need basis
What You Bring to the Table
● 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting function with similar responsibilities
● Experience working with SAP or similar ERP platforms.
● Good knowledge of MS office Suite and G Suite (Google Sheets, Docs and Slides)
● Experience in the FMCG or liquor industry (preferred).
● Understanding of accounting principles and concepts
SKILLS
● Bachelors or Equivalent; Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
● Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal).
● Strong Knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, and local tax regulations.
● Advanced Excel skills.
● Strong interpersonal skills.
● High level of integrity and trust
