Brown-Forman Lead Fixed Asset Accountant in Guadalajara, Mexico

Meaningful Work From Day One

This position will be responsible for the overall accuracy of the company’s fixed asset accounting and reporting. This position also compiles the company’s annual capital budget and monitors and communicates variances between actual, budgeted and projected capital spending. Assist with other corporate accounting functions and special projects as time permits.

What You Can Expect

  • Maintain and manage the company’s SAP Asset Accounting system. Ensure that capital expenditures, fixed asset additions, retirements, transfers, depreciation and any other activity are recorded in compliance with GAAP and company policies.

  • Perform all fixed asset accounting transactions and period-end close activities. Assign SAP Internal Order numbers upon receipt of properly completed and approved Capital Appropriation Requests.

  • Accurately prepare the quarterly fixed asset and capitalized software roll-forward schedules. Monitor capital projects activity and spending levels, obtain status updates from project accountants/managers and identify/report any material over spending.

  • Compile the company’s annual capital budget, assist operating groups with the budgeting process, make recommendations, and prepare presentations for senior management.

  • Investigate and recommend ways to enhance the SAP Asset Accounting system and to establish it as a comprehensive single record of all the information related to fixed assets (e.g., physical location, property & income tax data, insurance data, class, insurance value, etc.).

  • Maintain the Fixed Assets Policies & Procedures Manual and ensure the company’s compliance with it. Lead annual company-wide fixed asset physical inventory process and work with asset custodians to continually improve the process.

  • Analyze fixed asset and software related G/L accounts and prepare accurate, timely reconciliations quarterly. Provide on-going service to internal customers. Includes recommending best practices, providing guidance, answering inquiries, and preparing various fixed asset-related reports requested by other departments.

  • Provide timely and accurate responses to questions and requests from both the internal and external auditors in connection with their audit procedures.

  • Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place and documented in compliance with SOX. Provide and implement recommendations for improvements to internal controls and policies.

  • Manage and participate on special projects as required (e.g., SAP implementations, upgrades and testing; tax initiatives, etc.).

  • Load JLL facilities management financial transactions to SAP and partner with them to ensure accurately reported.

What You Bring to the Table

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience.

  • A demonstrated proficiency and understanding of GAAP and the ability to prepare accounting and financial analyses.

  • A demonstrated knowledge of best practices for fixed asset policies and procedures. Proactive in recommending positive changes in procedures and leads the agreed-upon change process.

  • A demonstrated understanding and proficiency of US Tax depreciation rules, methods and conventions.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective work relationships with all levels of personnel.

  • Proven oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly discuss business issues and translate into financial implications and action plans.

  • Strong financial and analytical abilities with the ability to collect, analyze, and present results in a concise format.

  • The ability to work independently; the willingness and ability to organize, implement, and complete multiple tasks; can maintain accurate documentation and perform quality work with accuracy and attention to detail.

What Makes You Unique

  • In-depth experience with SAP Asset Accounting and Internal Order modules, including ability to determine and communicate necessary configuration changes to system programmers.

  • Lease Accounting experience with demonstrated understanding of ASC 842 requirements.

  • Experience in the beverage alcohol industry.
