About Grand Junction Regional Center:

Grand Junction Regional Center (GJRC) exists to provide person-centered quality healthcare, activities of daily living, and an active learning atmosphere in a safe and healthy environment for intellectually and developmentally disabled (IDD) individuals and individuals who may have behavioral health needs in addition to IDD. This work unit provides 24-hour treatment services that comply with State and Federal regulations.

Description of Job

This Health Care Technician III is responsible for providing direct hands-on programming to individuals assigned to the Day program area. Additionally, this position will manage and be responsible for the operation of a primary work area or job site, including organizing work or program area, and obtaining equipment and supplies. The Health Care Technician III also acts as a coordinator for residential staff and up to 15 people in a day program or work setting and will orient new staff to the work area and to individual’s programs. May take the lead role when supervisor is absent to include scheduling the day’s events and program coverage.

Additionally, as a Health Care Technician III, you can expect to:

  • Update and or revise and maintain folder of Diet Orders and Diet Instruction Sheets (DIS) for the Dietary department and all Living Areas. This position will transfer all DIS into Therapy

  • Routinely meet and consult with the registered dietitian regarding daily planning and prioritizing, diet orders, menus, recipes, equipment, and food safety and sanitation

  • Monitor the living areas and programming area for regulatory compliance regarding but not limited to food temps, refrigerator temps and proper labeling of food.

  • Work in conjunction with Dietitian or Community Integration Director to coordinate, schedule, and assist with training to meet the agency needs. Identify training needs for staff and individuals receiving services as it relates to achieving outcomes in their work area

  • Monitors the production of others; communicates to assigned staff specific expectations and provides feedback. Monitors individual’s wages per Department of Labor regulations

  • Assists with achieving outcomes for people in related areas as needed or as directed. This may include assisting with residential, therapy, recreation, or other needs. This may occur outside normal work hours to include evenings and weekends.

  • This position may be required to work other locations and/or shifts as needed to address agency resource needs; may be required to transport individuals on state vehicles from home to programming site or to offsite work areas, as well as taking individuals on outings.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

AND

  • Two (2) years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position

Substitutions

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a

year-for-year basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain required licensure/credentials (i.e. LPT or QMAP).

  • Dependable, adaptable, and responsible

  • Possess a current and valid LPT license in good standing

Conditions of Employment:

  • Full background check: CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons): CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers) and reference check required

  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. Driver's License

  • Shift Work – GJRC is a 24/7 facility, must be available to work any shift, any day and/or any area, to meet the agency needs

  • Travel – Drive state car, van or bussette to various group homes, programming, admin & in community

  • TB test is required, Requires Influenza and COVID vaccine

  • Annual recertification is required for “CORE” skills including CPR, suctioning, transfers and lift use, wheelchair securement, Safety Care.

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must (1) disclose that information on the application (2) provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position, (3) provide the employee number from the applicant’s prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
