Sixty greenhouse workers are needed for general farm labor. Responsibilities include working in a nursery facility to plant, cultivate, harvest, and transplant shrubs. Additional tasks involve mowing, cutting, and weeding fields, as well as planting, spraying, weeding, fertilizing, and watering shrubs using hand and gardening tools. Workers will perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Bending, stooping, and kneeling are required. Workers will use hand tools, including but not limited to hoes, shovels, shears, clippers, loppers, and saws. They must lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Power equipment such as tractors, planters, mowers, plows, sprayers, cultivators, power shears, chain saws, high lifts, forklifts, skid loaders, leaf blowers, and cart movers will also be used. Workers will operate sorting machines and must handle agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction. Additional responsibilities include installing and maintaining irrigation systems and water lines, moving and installing irrigation pipes, and digging and maintaining ditches. Workers will apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants, as well as mix and apply fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant-related treatments according to the appropriate times based on plant type, growth, climate, and crop conditions. Employees will clear debris from fields and clean/maintain nursery buildings, structures, equipment, and work areas. They will assist with nursery building and field maintenance and repairs, prepare fields and soil for planting, and remove cull stock, debris, tree stumps, brush, ferns, vines, and other growth from planting areas using tractors, mattocks, brush hooks, and/or axes. Additionally, workers will plant, cultivate, and maintain nursery stock and/or bedding plants in conditions suitable for shipping and sale to customers, as well as harvest, transplant, pot, and label them. Work will occur in Ottawa County, Michigan.
