FM Research Campus Engineering Operations Internship Summer 2025 in Glocester, Rhode Island

About FM’s Research Campus:
Sitting on over 1,600 acres in Western Rhode Island, The FM Research Campus is one of the world’s most innovative research and testing centers, including the Fire Technology Laboratory, which is the largest facility of its type. The research carried out in the Fire Technology Labs and the Remote Test Site, where explosion tests are conducted, help FM learn more about fire and explosion hazards. Our objective is to use these findings to increase technical knowledge and capabilities needed to provide loss prevention solutions to FM and its customers.
Responsibilities:
The Operations Internship provides a student with the opportunity to witness large and intermediate scale fire and explosion testing. Working with the test engineering and management team, the intern will progress the campus and lab documentation initiatives.
Assisting in:
Creating standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, checklists, forms, and other reference materials that support lab operations
Doing required background research such as interviewing subject matter experts, note taking, producing drawings, and collecting existing documentation
Creating or locating media (photos and videos) to support documentation effort
Current enrollment in a college or university and working towards a bachelor or master’s degree in science, engineering, or technology.
Skills with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Applications or similar (Word and Excel at a minimum) preferred
Good communication and collaboration skills
Technical writing skills and experience
Must be willing and comfortable working outside in seasonal conditions, as well as inside large fire testing laboratories which may be wet and sooty
Must be able to provide their own transportation to and from campus
