Job Summary:
The OR Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director of Surgical Services in the assessment, planning, implementation, and the evaluation of nursing service in the surgical services OR and Endo areas. He/She makes workload assignments and oversees patient flow/safety throughout surgical services in addition to a specific patient assignment.
Minimum Education:
Graduation from a school of nursing as a registered nurse required Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred Operating Room/Endoscopy experience preferred Ability to take call, and live within 20 minutes of the hospital, required
Minimum Work Experience:
Two years' experience as a charge nurse with demonstrated administrative and supervisory competence
Required Licenses: Current RN license required BLS required ACLS preferred PALS preferred Advanced Stroke Course preferred
Essential Functions:
Under the leadership of the Director of Surgical Services, assists with the coordination of human and fiscal resources, completion of reports, supervision of projects, and obtainment of unit goals within specified time frame and according to pre-established guidelines
Performs functions of a registered nurse - uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of patients
Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify environment to meet patient care needs
Functions as a role model for clinical practice to co-workers, students, and physicians to help build and maintain a professional environment
Communicate with patients, family members and physicians frequently while providing excellent customer service
Develop staff as appropriate (coach in prioritization, time management, less experienced staff development, etc.) and assist Director with performance appraisal criteria
Supervise and coordinate patient care in a manner to ensure that patient needs are provided in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
Possess the experience, knowledge and ability to safely apply theory to practice by providing, planning and delegating nursing care within the defined scope of practice for a registered nurse
Uses problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations that present in the work area
Ability to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients
Consistently demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psych/social/cultural support
Assist with the maintenance of departmental records and the ordering of departmental supplies/equipment
Possess knowledge of cleaning the surgical environment, equipment and flash autoclaving
Ability to manage high levels of stress due to multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities
Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards
Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information
Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization
Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies
