The primary purpose of this position, Munitions Maintenance Helper/Worker/Mechanic, WG-6501-5 Target WG-6501-11, is t0 perform intermediate-level maintenance of munitions, to include related components and equipment; and to participate in the development and validation of new maintenance/inspection procedure. DUTY TITLE: Munitions Test Support Mechanic/Inspector Responsibilities Participate in development, test, validation, inspection, maintenance, handling, loading procedures, and accountability for new or extensively modified munitions. Perform inspection of a wide array of munition types. Troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, rebuild, test, and perform end-item and in-process inspections on precision guided munitions, test and support equipment. Troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, rebuild, test and install conventional munitions and countermeasures. Responsible for ensuring the safe and timely delivery of conventional and precision-guided munitions and associated components. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6500 Ammunition, Explosive, And Toxic Materials Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Position involves lifting and carrying up to 80 pounds or over; assistance is available for items over 45 pounds. Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, and turning, climbing, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting forklift trucks. Subject to possible strain caused by forklift truck vibrations. Hours of straight pulling are up to 8 hours/week. Hours of pushing are up to 8 hours/week. Reaching above shoulder. Hours of walking are up to 3 hours/day. Hours of standing are up to 7 hours/day. Hours of kneeling are up to 4 hours/week. Hours of repeated bending are up to 8 hours/week. Operation of truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches. Hearing (aid permitted). Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed at times in environmentally controlled areas with exposure to drafts, noise, fumes, dirt, dust, and grease. May be subject to frequent exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures several times a day. May be subject to repetitive motions associated with computers. Subject to exposure to high explosives, high-pressure pneumatic systems, severe heat, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strain. Will be required to wear protective clothing, such as steel-toed shoes, leather gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, reflective belts, and protective apron, depending on assigned work area. This position may require: use firearms or ammunition; sell or dispose of firearms or ammunition; receive, possess, ship or transport firearms; or other duties, activities or responsibilities covered by the Gun Control Act. Selectee must have no convictions of a crime of domestic violence. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
