Position Summary

MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for a fixed-term non-tenure-track appointment in Business Law and Ethical Leadership, effective fall 2024 in the Department of Finance at the Eli Broad College of Business. This is a full-time fixed term, non-tenure track position. The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate level law courses in person at the Michigan State University Eli Broad College of Business Main Campus and online.

A successful candidate will be expected to teach both online and face-to-face courses in various areas of business law, such as Entrepreneurial Law, Business Organizations, Corporate Governance, Contract Law, International Business Law, Torts Law, Business Ethical Leadership, and Environmental Law. The standard teaching load for a full-time Assistant Professor Fixed-Term is eight (8) courses per academic year. Faculty are expected to focus primarily on teaching but are also expected, to a limited degree, to engage in additional responsibilities that includes academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and college and university service.

Minimum Requirements

Job Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school with an excellent academic record and be licensed to practice law in one of the US states or the District of Columbia and demonstrate a high level of teaching competence or demonstrated potential to be an outstanding teacher, as well as the ability to contribute positively to a multicultural campus. An earned a master's degree in a business or other discipline related to entrepreneurship, a law journal membership, and clerkship experience are desirable but not required. Significant professional experience as an attorney is also highly valued with 5+ years in environmental and torts law. While we welcome applications from candidates in all areas of business law, we would be especially interested to hear from applicants who have a combination background in environmental law, insurance law, tort law, contracts law, business organizations, corporate governance, business ethics and sustainability, or entrepreneurship, and those who could help advance the Broad College of Business's equity and inclusion initiatives and programs, as well as demonstrate the interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses. Experience with and commitment to working with diverse student populations and commitment to equity in education at all levels is required. Experience and/or commitment to the use of technology as an instructional tool is desirable, as are strong collegial and collaborative skills.

Knowledge of principles, methods, and current developments in the field of study.

Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.

Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques and ability to use case-based or other interactive teaching methods.

Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students.

Strong competency in the use of computers, Internet resources, zoom, and MS Office software.

Ability to learn relevant sections of online integrated database systems for student grading and course content delivery.

Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
