Boy Scouts of America Camp Ranger in Du Bois, Pennsylvania

As a council employee, the camp ranger is responsible to the Scout executive for the operation and maintenance of physical facilities and property in the area to which he is assigned. The Scout executive may delegate this direct responsibility to a member of his staff.

Under remote direction, the work of the reanger will be determined through regular conferences and/or written directives from his supervisor. He will have participated in a National Camp School for Camp Rangers.

Responsibilities:

PROTECTION AND CONTROL OF PROPERTY AND PEOPLE

Control all unauthorized use. Patrol property (at least weekly) for trespass, fire and trash.

Ensure sage operating conditions and know emergeny procedures (including posting emergency phone numbers in home) and know National BSA Standards for long-term camp as outlined by the National Camp Accreditation Program.

BUSINESS RESPONSIBILITIES

Comply with established council business procedures including accounting of petty cash and other funds. Timely reporting of business charges, vehicle usage logs through a monthly expense report.

Sumit weekly work plans and work repports. Maintain essential business records.

Communicate with the Scouting community via articles in the quarterly newsletter.

Supervise maintenance employees when assigned.

OPERATION OF PHYSICAL FACILITIES AND PROPERTY

Keep all physical property in acceptable operating condition. Be particularly alert to conditions which affect health, safety, sanitation and good housekeeping practices (including custodial duties).

Submist estimates of time and materials when nesessary and perform general repairs as authorized.

Cooperate closely with camp director or cam master corps to effectively resolve questions of facility operation.

Work closely with the summer camp staff to assure the proper set-up and teardown of summer camp operations.

Develop and maintain, with support from volunteers, an on-going year-round maintenance plan of all camp assets.

Submit timely reports on groups using camp.

MAINTENANCE OF PHYSICAL FACILITIES AND PROPERTY

Make regular inspections (at least weekly) to determine essential repairs and corrective action.

Submit estimates of time and materials when necessary, and perform general repairs as authorized.

Maintain record of all maintenance action.

Serve on the council's Conservation Committee and supervise the implementation of the property conservation plan.

Work actively and meet regularly with the council's property committee to develop goals and coordinate property committee projects.

RELATIONSHIPS

As directed, Maintain harmonious relationships with local officials and Government Services, adjoining landowners, and neighboring community.

Serve as the host and coordinate the fellowship and projects of various work days.

Favorably represent the council in contacts with visitors, Scouters and Scouts.

Promote the use of camp facilities to BSA and outside groups.

Maintain good housekeeping practices surrounding ranger's resinece and in semi-public are of such residence.

Qualifications:

1) Ability to get along with people and to have a firendly and helpful attitude towar the Scouting family and the public (Required).

2) Ability to effectively enforce established council policies and procedures (Required).

3) Ability to perform a variety of maintenance skills with specialized capability in at least one technical skill (Required).

4) Ability to plan personal time and schedule work without direct supervision (Highly desired).

Salary or Salry Range: $32,000- $37,000 based on experience and skills plus housing.
