Summary

The Enterprise Systems Architect plays a pivotal role in providing technical expertise for the successful implemenation, support, and continuous optimization of the Enterpirse Resource Planning (ERP) system at Midwestern University. This position is resposible for designing and overseeing the system architecture, ensuring seamless integration between the ERP and university ancillary systems, as well as third-party vendors and service providers. The Enterprise System Architect will work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, design technical solutions, and ensure data integrity and operational efficiency both during and after the ERP implemenation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Technical Expertise and ERP System Management

  • Lead the design, architecture, and technical strategy for ERP system throughout its lifecycle

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define the ERP system’s technical requirements and ensure alignment with the university’s strategic goals

  • Provide technical oversight during the ERP implementation lifecycle, including configuration, testing, deployment, and post-implementation support and enhancements

  • System Integration

  • Design integrations between the ERP system and various university systems including constituent management relationship systems, student information systems, financial systems, learning management systems, and human resources platforms

  • Develop and enforce data flow protocols to ensure real-time and batch data transfers between systems, maintaining data accuracy and security

  • Oversee API development, ETL processes, and middleware solutions to facilitate seamless connectivity

  • Monitor and maintain automated and integrated processes within both legacy and modern systems, identifying and correcting errors to minimize disruptions

  • Requirement Gathering and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with university departments to gather and document business and technical requirements

  • Translate business needs into technical specifications and system design documents

  • Facilitate workshops and technical discussions to align stakeholders on project milestones and deliverables

  • System Optimization and Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor and optimize system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements to meet evolving business needs

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within the ERP and integrated systems

  • Stay current with ERP platform updates and emerging technologies to recommend and implement innovative solutions

  • Maintain and enhance legacy business process where automation and integration are critical to daily operations

  • Analytics and Business Intelligence

  • Design and implement reporting and analytics solutions to provide actionable insights for university leadership and departments

  • Oversee existing business intelligence processes, ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and accessibility of data-driven tools

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and build dashboards that support strategic decision making

  • Data Governance and Security

  • Establish data governance policies to maintain data integrity, compliance, and security across all integrated systems

  • Monitor and optimize system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements

  • Project Management Support

  • Support the Director of Information Technology Applications and the project management team in developing project plans, timelines, and risk management strategies

  • Provide technical insights to ensure project scope, budget, and quality objectives are achieved

  • Legacy System Maintenance

  • Assess all projects within the legacy system to ensure compliance with university IT and security standards

  • Keep legacy software and technology stacks updated with vendor releases, open-source security patches, and institutional requirements

  • Ensure all development and maintenance efforts within the legacy environment align with institutional guidelines

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering or a related information technology field from an accredited institution is required. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years of experience in enterprise system architecture, with a focus on ERP support and integration in a higher education environment.

The individual must have the following skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in ERP platforms (e.g. Jenzabar CX, Jenzabar JX, Jenzabar EX, Jenzabar One, Workday, Oracle, Ellucian Banner), related integration technologies (e.g. API’s, web services, ETL tools, iPaaS frameworks), and business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos Analytics)

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and managing complex system integrations

  • Excellent understanding of data modeling, database design, and business intelligence tools

  • Proven ability to gather and translate business requirements into technical solutions

  • Strong problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of IT governance, data security, and compliance standards
