Community Health Systems Shipping/Receiving Clerk in Dothan, Alabama

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Chef of Food & Nutrition the Stock Clerk is responsible for the efficient and safe receipt of all food and supply deliveries. The Stock Clerk is also responsible for the storage and inventory of supplies and special cleaning assignments throughout the department. The stock clerk is involved in providing services to a patient population in all age groups, pediatric to geriatric. The stock clerk position adheres to all federal, state and local guidelines governing safe food handling and preparation.

Essential Functions

  • Receives and inspects incoming shipments, verifying contents against packing slips and purchase orders for accuracy and condition.

  • Processes incoming materials by labeling, documenting, and routing items to appropriate departments or storage locations.

  • Prepares outgoing shipments, including packaging, labeling, and coordinating with couriers or freight companies to ensure timely delivery.

  • Maintains accurate records of incoming and outgoing materials, ensuring proper documentation in inventory or materials management systems.

  • Communicates with internal departments and vendors to resolve discrepancies, report damages, or coordinate special handling instructions.

  • Operates material handling equipment, such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, or forklifts, in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Ensures the cleanliness and organization of the shipping and receiving area, adhering to safety and infection prevention standards.

  • Monitors inventory levels of shipping supplies and notifies appropriate personnel when reorders are needed.

  • Complies with facility policies, regulatory guidelines, and applicable safety standards in all shipping and receiving activities.

  • Assists with physical inventory counts and cycle counts as requested by leadership.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • 0-1 years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, or materials handling required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of shipping/receiving processes and inventory systems.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to safely operate material handling equipment.

  • Basic computer skills for data entry and recordkeeping.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects in accordance with safety guidelines.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Forklift Certification preferred
