Honeywell Senior Mechanical Design Layout Engineer in Des Plaines, Illinois

This role is working in Quality Engineering that acts as an authoritative knowledge source related to detail designers, fabricators, and coordinates a broad range of complex professional development, design, technology or quality assignments requiring extensive knowledge of advanced techniques and their application to specific projects and work with ALL different disciplines in the Rosemont office along with other global engineering offices in support of modular projects.

You will report directly to our team lead and you’ll work out of our Rosemont, IL location on a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draws on relevant expertise and sound logic to resolve complex problems, choose alternatives that have positive business impact, and makes timely and effective decisions on complex issues.

  • Has established strong track record across company of technology innovation. (e.g. through development of new process design solutions; realization of increased customer value from installed technology base through optimization of operations, and improved process reliability; and contribution to technology development teams

  • Mentors junior engineers globally, and actively supports their technical development

  • Coordinate with UOP global offices regarding layout design methodology, design Lessons Learned, minimize errors or omissions, cost-cutting measures and overall approaches for “economic” design and fabrication

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, such as civil, mechanical, and electrical, to coordinate design efforts and resolve interdisciplinary conflicts. Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to ensure smooth implementation of piping systems.

  • Able to convey many important technical aspects of designing a UOP Unit to not only other UOP design staff, as a layout specialist but also to UOP third-party detail designers and to applicable customer design/engineering staff, all which are tantamount to the successful execution of any project.

  • Quickly gathers, analyzes, and applies relevant information to arrive at a broad understanding of problems and optimal solutions: Working closely with sales support team with a goal of quickly developing “Preliminary Plot Plan”.

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficiency in 3D design software including ability to navigate software for 3D model reviews and can perform 3D modeling work: Keep developing/use internal UOP specifications and/or meeting agenda for running “3D Model Review Meetings” in different stages (30%, 60% and 90%).

  • Understand internal/external customer needs and show good judgment in what appropriate responses should be to balance between maintaining strong customer working relationships and UOP's business interests. Modular and EPC projects are the key areas on these tasks.

  • Demonstrates effective project management and execution skills. Able to lead smaller projects or components of larger projects effectively.

  • Recognizes opportunities to make improvements and acts promptly to recommend changes to improve the work process or product.

  • Authors and/or update company procedures/operating manuals/training courses. Arrange training for layout specialists (such as: developing large size plot plans, NavisWORKS capabilities and etc.) and developing different documents.

The application period for the job is estimated to be 40 days from the job posting date; however, this may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates.

The annual base salary range for this position is $122,00 - $153,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineer, or related engineering discipline

  • 15 or more years of relevant experience in engineering or related technical activities.
