ICF Manager, Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) - REMOTE in Denver, Colorado

Description

As the Manager for the Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) team, you will be a key team member of a client facing technical consulting team that assists clients with the financing of and ongoing reporting required for low carbon fuel assets. Fuels of interest include Renewable Natural Gas, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Renewable Diesel, Hydrogen (from biologic and renewable electricity), Ethanol, Electricity, E-Methanol, E-SAF, and other emerging fuel types. The teams remit is LCAs for low carbon fuels transactions including Carbon Intensity (CI) Analyses using Argonne National Lab’s GREET Model, OpenLCA, and modeling frameworks for credits under emerging LCFS markets, tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act, as well as emerging voluntary programs.

This person will assist low carbon asset owners with the preparation of Tier 2 and design-based pathways for submission to the California Air Resources Board (CARB), Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), British Colombia LCFS and other more recent additions such as the Washington, New Mexico, and Canadian Federal clean fuel programs. To support our growth, we seek a Manager, Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) to work in our Technical Advisory line of business. The consultant will manage the delivery of CI and LCA reports, establish subject matter expert practices to support low carbon fuel financial transactions, as well as have a key role in development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff. Team members at ICF have an opportunity to apply their experience and academic knowledge, gain exposure to major projects, and interact with experts and clients in the field, while building content knowledge and consulting skills. Team members advance in our consulting practice typically develop an area of special competence, with increasing responsibility for project management, modeling subject matter expertise, and client contact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Both manage and set direction for a team of LCA experts that provide financing grade LCA analyses in a fast paced environment.

  • Be a Senior Subject Matter Expert on LCA practices to provide guidance to more junior members of the team.

  • Principal client interface for LCA business development responsible for setting strategy, interacting with potential clients, and leveraging existing company business development professionals

  • CI and LCA review projects for various low carbon fuels incorporating results from applicable CARB GREET models, IRA tax credits including but not limited to Sections 45Z, 45V, and 45Q, voluntary protocols, and other LCA models on a stand-alone basis or as part of a broader report.

  • Understand and periodically adjust LCA and GREET inputs as necessary to respond to policy and technical changes by CARB and ODEQ, market changes in voluntary programs and changes in legislation/regulation in other markets and how they impact LCA/CI scoring in the markets of interest.

  • Develop and maintain CI and LCA tools for to optimize production of LCA and CI reports internally and or prepare tools to support clients with project screening efforts.

  • Prepare materials and assemble supporting documentation to support client applications to CARB/ODEQ for new pathways under the programs including Tier 1, Tier 2, and design-based pathways.

  • Assist clients with development of monitoring programs for LCFS and similar programs.

  • Collaborate with and direct junior staff on CA/LCA research and modeling.

  • Lead project level client interface and responsible for delivery of key deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications:

Please note: Experience is evaluated as post degree and in addition to academic related experience such as internship(s), fellowship(s), research, etc.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related disciplines with 5+ years of relevant energy industry experience OR Master's degree with 3+ years of experience.

  • Experience with LCA / CI modeling skills.

  • Experience with ANL GREET Model

  • Experience with California LCFS and or Oregon CFP market.

  • Experience with managing teams.

  • Experience with writing clear concise reports outlining model outputs and market concepts.

  • US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Previous consulting experience

  • Previous business development experience

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, economics, environmental policy, mathematics, or operations research

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)

  • Experience in programming in R, Python, Matlab, and/or VBA.

  • Manages projects with minimal oversight including inputs from peers, direct reports, and superiors.

  • Understands task expectations and how tasks fit in the overall project.

  • Works collaboratively with project team and client to define and achieve established goals.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:

$112,513.00 - $191,273.00
