Ford Motor Company HEMS System Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

As the HEMS System Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing a Home Energy Management System (HEMS) that leverages the advanced capabilities our next-generation electric vehicles. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the engineering team through the design, validation, certification, and launch phases of the project. We need a collaborative, proactive, and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively navigate cross-functional teams, including Digital Product, Planning, Functional Safety, Feature, Quality, and Supplier. Your ability to deliver innovative design solutions that meet or exceed project targets will be critical to success.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of vehicle electrification and spearhead the development and integration of our next-generation energy management solutions. You will be responsible for leading the system architecture design, ensuring seamless integration of hardware and software components, and driving the development of robust and reliable HEMS solutions that set new industry standards.

What you'll do…

  • Lead system architecture and integration efforts for HEMS products

  • Identify and define HEMS system-level requirements based on input from multiple sources (CDS, regulatory, program, quality documents)

  • Support the creation and maintenance of Requirements, Design Rules, and Test Methods within FEDE

  • Collaborate closely with electrical engineers to develop PCB layouts from schematics and component specifications

  • Assist in signal integrity analysis and simulations to optimize PCB performance

  • Help team create and maintain component libraries within PCB design tool.

  • Drive resolution of PCB-related issues during prototyping and production.

  • Lead the development of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to ensure product reliability and safety

  • Ensure the team adheres to Global Product Development System (GPDS) timing and deliverables, updating global integrator milestones as needed

  • Support GPDS program milestone reviews – assist in creation of presentations and support management reviews

  • Lead Design Validation Plan (DVP) development from both hardware and software perspectives

  • Support the development of Test Methods referenced by DVP

  • Lead the development of HEMS Functional Safety (FuSa)

  • Collaborate with the Standards Engineer to identify and understand applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards as they apply to charging, national and local electric code, energy storage systems, homologation and installation

  • Address the impact of cybersecurity on hardware systems

  • Collaborate with Energy Services and suppliers to develop comprehensive Warranty, Service, and Technical Support policies

You'll have…

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

  • 2+ years of working experience in circuit design/PCB layout or systems engineering role preferably in automotive, electric vehicle, or energy field (coursework and internship experience allowed)

Even better, you may have…

  • Master of Science or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering other related degree

  • Coursework or experience in system architecture, integration, and development of embedded controllers

  • Proven experience in leading complex technical projects and cross-functional teams

  • Awareness of applicable building, electrical, interconnection codes, electrical grid / energy distribution, industry best practices, new products, and applications a plus

  • An understanding of HEMS systems, energy management principles, and related technologies

  • Experience with DFMEA, DVP, and other quality assurance methodologies

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

  • Self-motivated with strong follow-through and multitasking skills; capable of working effectively in a remote environment

  • Understanding of electronic principles, PCB fabrication processes, and industry standards, with proven experience using Altium Designer

This position is a range of salary grades 5-8 .
