Job Summary

The Corrosion Protection Technician will assist with all aspects of developing, testing, and maintaining the corrosion protection system on UGI Energy Services Pipelines, including Majorsville, East Washington, Big Pine, and Gibraltar. As well as other job duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs work in a safe manner, including use of required personal protective equipment in accordance with Company safety policies, procedures, and requirements

  • Schedules and plans work

  • Maintains regulatory and environmental compliance, efficient and reliable operations, with minimal outages

  • Responsible for Annual CP surveys, testing critical bonds, and documenting Rectifier reads; Checking Bullhorns and interrupting rectifiers as needed

  • Atmospheric Corrosion Inspection and follow-up work

  • Performs troubleshooting of CPcable breaks, and foreign line crossings

  • Perform Close interval surveys to ensure CP protection of the pipelines

  • Basic computer skills including PCS

  • Capacity to work with other CP Techs

  • Documentation of work in accordance with company policy, and related administrative duties associated with pipeline and maintenance activities such as completion of written forms, records, logs, and schedules, etc.

  • Currently possess or able to achieve NACE CP1 certification

  • Interacts with producers, contractors, customers, landowners, regulatory agencies, Gas Control and Monitoring Center and various support services in a professional manner as required for efficient and reliable operations

  • Represent the company during audits of our corrosion records

  • Basic electrical theory

  • Perform LOTO as needed

  • Knowledge of pipeline coatings and applications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1 - 2 years of technical training or experience in operation of natural gas pipeline systems is preferred

  • Above average knowledge and experience in the use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments

  • Basic computer skills, including the use of a handheld computer

  • Above average ability to lift, bend, climb, and push or pull tools and equipment while accomplishing work tasks

Working Conditions:

  • Work 60% outdoors

  • Travel occasionally, including some overnight stays

  • Receive, understand, and carry out instructions in a timely manner under diverse conditions including time constraints or adverse weather

  • Be dependable regarding attendance, timeliness, availability for emergency response, overtime, etc.

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and obtain DOT classification

  • Provide a driver's abstract for review

  • Be available for call-out and emergency response
