UPMC Nurse Midwife or PA or CRNP - OB GYN Physicians Practice - UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, Maryland

UPMC Western Maryland is hiring a Full-Time Nurse Midwife or Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to help support OB GYN Physicians Practice.

Hours: Four 8-hour shifts per week with one 24-hour call shift

Location: UPCM Western Maryland

Position Specifics: The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to supporting midwifery-based approaches to gynecologic care, prenatal care, childbirth, and postpartum care. Excellent communication skills are a must, as well as the ability to participate in our cohesive, team-based approach.

Department Details: OB GYN office sees a large number of patients each year. It is a very busy practice and currently has 2 Physicians, 3 Nurse Midwives, 1 CRNP and 1 PA. The L&D unit has 4 L&D rooms, 2 Antenatal rooms, 2 swing rooms- 2 on unit surgical suites. Level 2 nursery and 12 bed post-partum unit.

Purpose:

Under the clinical supervision of a physician, provides patient care to designated patient population. Works within the guidelines of the Scope of Practice as defined by the Maryland Board of Nursing and applicable licensing statutes. Duties include but are not limited to independent management of clients who are appropriate to the Nurse Midwife's educational preparation and skill level; management, in collaboration with a physician, of clients with medical complications; and consulting with other health care professionals in the delivery and evaluation of care. Additional duties and responsibilities are as defined in the collaborative plan that has been submitted to and approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing.

The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes.

Responsibilities:

  • Practices within scope of licensure, certification, and/or job description. Takes personal responsibility for patient care and safety. Complies with National Patient Safety Goals and other regulatory standards. Includes safety assessments and planning for all activities and services being provided. Speaks up, and encourages patients and family members to do likewise, if safety is a concern. Promptly reports safety risks and takes appropriate action to reduce these risks.

  • Identifies measurable, expected, patient-focused goals that translate into observable behaviors.

  • Implements the identified plan by intervening, delegating and coordinating the plan of patient care.

  • Determines a clinical judgment about the patient's response to actual or potential health conditions or needs.

  • Collects and analyzes data about the patient utilizing a systematic, dynamic process, through interaction with the patient, significant others, and health care providers. Data may include the following dimensions: physical, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual, cognitive, functional abilities, developmental, economic, and lifestyle.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the patients served as specified below

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span

  • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs

  • Provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures

  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients

This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.

Licensure, Education, Certifications, and Clearances

Nurse Midwife:

  • Master's in nursing is required

  • Strong technical and communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a health care team are required

  • Registered Nurses RN - Registered Nurse License

  • State of Maryland Certification as a Nurse Midwife from the American Midwifery Certification Board (ACNM) or other MD BON approved certifying body

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner ( CRNP): * *

  • The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required

  • BSN, MSN is preferred

  • Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred

  • Current state RN license and NP certification are required

  • National certification, eligible for licensure by Maryland board of nursing, eligible for certification as a NP by Maryland state board of nursing

  • Current CPR certification is required

Physician Assistant (PA):

  • A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required

  • BS or MS candidate is preferred

  • Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred

  • Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required

  • Current CPR certification is required
