Building Maintenance Mechanic (Paid Apprenticeship) The Building Maintenance Mechanic is a full-time (40 hours per week) onsite position reporting to the Facilities Operations Manager.

The Building Maintenance Mechanic preserves and maintains the Corning Museum of Glass facilities and common areas in excellent condition and functionality. This position operates a variety of equipment to perform maintenance activities related to buildings, warehouses, equipment, utilities, environmental requirements, energy management systems, HVAC equipment, humidity controls, fire protection equipment and safety programs. The Building Maintenance Mechanic maintains the grounds and all outdoor areas of the campus as well as repairs facility equipment and property structures.

APPRENTICESHIP SUMMARY The Corning Museum of Glass is registered to participate in the New York State Department of Labors Apprenticeship program (program). Through this program, the successful candidate will work toward certification as a Building Maintenance Mechanic by completing 4,000 hours of on-the-job training in specific work processes under the supervision of journey workers at the Museum. Additionally, the Museum will provide 288 hours of related instructional training required for certification, free of charge. The apprenticeship program is designed to be completed in approximately two years. Candidates will receive hands-on training in areas such as safe tool use, rigging, material handling, building cleaning and maintenance, basic electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, painting and plastering, mechanical installation and maintenance, and record-keeping skills. Both entry level and seasoned professionals are encouraged to apply for this position and are eligible to participate in the apprenticeship program.

POST APPRENTICESHIP HVAC TRAINING Upon completing the Building Maintenance Mechanic Apprenticeship, the Museum requires candidates to participate in an additional year of HVAC training, also provided at no cost to the candidate.
