Intern, Automation and Controls Engineering (Summer)

Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. We are currently seeking an Intern, Automation and Controls Engineering (Summer) The Engineering Intern will assist with various projects within Global Plant Engineering. Additional duties may be assigned as needed, and assistance may be requested by the Engineering Manager to accomplish other tasks as necessary to reach the department goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learn and implement electrical and control system basics.

  • Troubleshoot sensors, switches, relays, PLCs, variable drives and motors.

  • Update field engineering drawings using AutoCAD software (training provided).

  • May assist in data collection and/or field verification.

  • Assist Engineering Staff with compiling specifications for bidding and purchasing of equipment, materials, supplies, and services.

  • Support project implementations, including PLC programming using Rockwell Software (training provided).

  • Participate in Team and Project meetings to gather updates and changes on projects.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelors’ degree program majoring in chemical engineering, materials science or related discipline.

  • Must be at least Sophomore status.

  • Must have a minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA (student will be required to provide a current transcript).

  • Must be available to work at least 40 hours per week for at least 12 weeks.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to see work through to completion.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing and Office environment.

  • Typically exposed to office noise and interruptions such as printer, phone, and other electronic devices.

  • Work hours are 40 hours per week, flexible.

  • Required to follow Allied Mineral Products’ Safety & Health policy and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate.
