MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited collegeandsix (6) months of experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; or engineering;or

One and a half (1.5) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida;or

Two (2) years of experience as described above.

Possession of a valid Class E Driver License.

Occasional travel is required.

Must reside in required county(ies) throughout employment in this position.

This position is headquartered in a home office. The headquarters are negotiable within Broward County.

JOB DUTIES:

Plan, develop, coordinate and conduct activities to protect community health, safety, and welfare relative to invasive or emerging structural, agricultural, and natural resource pests, and other special projects. Provide training to field inspection staff related to invasive structural, agricultural, and natural resource pests, and other special projects. Assist in coordinating activities related to eradication efforts that may include local and state government and federal agencies.

Develop and maintain public information activities relative to invasive or emerging structural, agricultural, and natural resource pests, and other special projects that will provide improved consumer education and protection. Develop and maintain outreach activities for the industry and public in order to provide information on structural and property protection. Plan, coordinate and participate in the educational classes and coursework relating to the control and prevention of subterranean and exotic invasive termites at training facilities throughout Florida.

Maintain familiarity with technical aspects and developments relative to invasive or emerging structural, agricultural, or natural resource pests and other special projects.

Participate in the strategic planning process as directed. Propose tactics for accomplishment of goals related to assigned special project area. Create and maintain policies and procedures specific to program goals.

Participate in the development and periodic review of the division website to ensure that information posted on the assigned special project area is current, accurate and useful to the public and industry.

Perform all functions in support of activities related to Chapters 482 and 487, F.S., and associated rules, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with division and department policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of conehead termite bionomics, surveillance, and control mechanisms.

  • Ability to plan and implement effective survey projects.

  • Ability to create and communicate presentations (in person or online) as indicated by the needs of the audience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing as indicated by the needs of the audience.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.

  • Ability to use a personal computer.

  • Ability to handle and transport 50 lb. objects and to work in extreme hot and cold temperatures.
