The Sherwin-Williams Company R&D- Associate Chemist in Cleveland, Ohio

The Chemist organizes and executes project testing with minimal direction in support of Performance Coatings Group. Responsibilities will include leading projects, organizing testing, completing performance testing, and generating reports on results. Must be able to coordinate multiple projects/timelines simultaneously. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining test equipment and supplies, training of others on lab technique, and film test protocols. This position reports to the Testing and Certification R&D Group Leader. * Plans projects after receipt including compilation of needed project materials. * Performs required tests and evaluations using necessary equipment and records results. * Provides feedback, test results, and data regarding the test projects submitted. * Completes a variety of forms and documents detailing test findings and basic project results; requires independent judgment within professional guidelines. * Leads projects with objectives that are outlined, short-term, long term, and complex in nature and provides professional support to the product development, quality control, manufacturing processes, and other operations. * Ensures compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations. * Oversees one or more equipment processes within the laboratory. * Oversees one or more quality systems within the ISO 17025 quality system. * Responds to standard to moderately complex questions and concerns from R&D/Sales/Marketing, research technicians/technologists, and other internal parties regarding product testing and related programs and services. * Operates, cleans, manages, and calibrates a variety of equipment related to test equipment that require professional judgment and background; also utilizes technical or standard equipment during the course of projects. * May supervise or serve as a mentor to lower-level technicians or support personnel performing research projects. * Requires independent project management skills and troubleshooting ability. * Independently managing timelines and effective communication are crucial. * Requires critical thinking and problem solving skills. * Performs other duties as assigned. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). * Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field. * Knowledge of basic math skills * Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis * Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint * Understanding of fundamental professional chemistry principles and practices * Experience performing basic professional lab testing tasks * Ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations * Solving problems and recommending solutions * Prioritizing daily project tasks * Working with a basic understanding of the commercialization process * PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications * Communicating with co-workers to provide and receive direction PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * 1-3 years' experience in a laboratory Travel Requirements: 10% Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in Q4 2024. Until then, the role will be based at the Warrensville Technical Center, located at 4440 Warrensville Center Rd Warrensville Heights, OH 44128.
