Michelman Manager, Environmental Health & Safety in Cincinnati, Ohio

General Summary
We have a great opportunity available for you to join Michelman as a Manager for Environmental, Health and Safety . In this role, you will deploy all EHS safety programs, in compliance with the global practices and national requirement and regulations. You will coordinate and communicate best practices around EHS compliance and industry changes across multiple sites, which include manufacturing sites, warehouses, labs, and administrative offices (global headquarters).
Primary Responsibilities
Lead site engagement with our EHS programs by leading the establishment of a strong “Safety First” culture, to help Michelman achieve our goal of being a world class leader in Safety
Establish and maintain regional occupational and process safety policies and procedures in accordance with internal requirements and applicable regulatory requirements
Implement/maintain all occupational health and safety programs, environmental compliance programs/reporting, with an emphasis on targeted key initiativesEstablish a visible presence across sites and engage with employees on a routine basis through informal plant walks, routine audits, and by leading our US Safety committee
Act as the site expert in both occupational and process safety management and provide guidance to the site teams as necessary to ensure compliance with our policies and procedures
Drive a continuous improvement mentality for EHS Performance by developing, maintaining, analyzing and reporting on Michelman’s regional EHS KPIs
Support the development of Michelman’s global safety standards through the sharing of best practices, communication, education, and reporting
Develop and coordinate Michelman’s emergency response plan, training and drills
Manage all occupational health exams and medical treatment and worker’s compensation in response to occupational injuries
Manage the site EHS Training program, content development, training associates and assessing associate competency
Review all new chemicals, new equipment and new products for safety and environmental compliance
Define and drive the incident investigation process at all Michelman US sites and track all corrective actions to closure
Manage environmental compliance including domestic air, wastewater, storm water and cooling water permit requirements, liaising with external consultants and contractors as necessary.
Ensure hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste disposal are in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, including tracking, regulatory reporting, and vendor management
Comply with the Storm Water/Spill Prevention Plans
Establish and participate in the environmental health and safety audits of Michelman facilities as needed and in the implementation of recommendations generated from such audits
Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expert in both personal safety and process safety
Familiar with OSHA 1910 and its requirements
Experience with practical application of both occupational and process safety in a chemical manufacturing environment
Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proven ability to think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion
Able to collaborate and influence associates at all levels within the organization
Demonstrated independent work initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy, analytical ability and professional demeanor
Able to make effective presentations to diverse groups
Perform financial calculations and manage budgets
Experience managing a team
Education and Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required in environmental services, occupational health or engineering
Minimum 10 years of safety management experience in an industry that is engaged in batch manufacturing of chemical products with a significant exposure to health, safety, and environmental issues
Prefer individual with industry certification (e.g., CIH, CSP, NEBOSH)
5+ years of team management experience
