Business Relationship Officer

Summary:

The Business Relationship Officer for the USVI small business sector is responsible for driving small business sales in the USVI retail branches to achieve assigned goals. This individual works directly with the USVI Retail Banking & Operations Manager, and District Managers to review, structure and submit small business requests (i.e. lines of credit, term loans, business credit cards) to the Small Business Underwriting Manager for a timely credit decision. These requests are required to comply with the bank’s guidelines and State Small Business Credit Initiative /SSBCI or SBA guidelines (if eligible/applicable).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Woks with the USVI Retail Banking management and teams to drive/lead all small business activities; implementing/executing sales tactics and strategies to achieve assigned benchmarks with a focus on maximizing returns (i.e commissions/fees), increase productivity, manage loan workflow process, perform pipeline management, and post-closing/servicing initiatives.

  • Serves as a liaison between the Bank and SSBCI and SBA government guaranteed entities to manage and expedite small business cases through the pipeline.

  • Monitors and analyzes portfolio growth; reviews delinquency on a monthly basis; and monitors referrals through OSS for other business units to increase client relationship ratio (i.e. deposits, CTB, etc.).

  • Reviews and represents the Bank in all guaranteed loans for closing and reporting in order to prevent substantial matters that may affect the guaranty, including but not limited to the review of closing legal documentation with Small Business closing team related to the transaction and verifies loan details ensuring compliance with internal and SBA Policy.

  • Requests approval for exceptions and/or modifications; authorizes and signs on behalf of the Bank on forms, checks and entries (under dual control with Branch Manager); and provides support to Work Out Department in order to obtain the full payment of the guaranty.

  • Ensures the Unit complies with the bank’s policies, procedures, and local/federal requirements.

Performs other related support activities and special projects for Senior Management Reporting to USVI Retail Banking & Operations Manager

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent work experience in Commercial Lending, 5 years.

Minimum Requirement:

Maintains current licenses and certifications for guaranteed loan programs.

Experience:

5 or more years of commercial lending experience

Independence of Judgement:

The degree of judgement is related to the integration and coordination of varied elements and its application to specific subjects.
