Staff Engineer- Current Product Development

Onsite-Cheltenham.

Salary up to £50K subject to skills & experience, plus a fantastic benefits package including a company bonus!

But, to get to where we want to be, we are looking for a multi-skilled engineer to join our Current Product Development Team. Find out more below!

You will be enthusiastic about gathering feedback, analysing data & making incremental improvements to our products throughout their lifecycle. Ensuring the product remains relevant, aligned to customer needs and maximising aftersales satisfaction at the lowest Life cycle cost.

You will drive consistency within required performance, safety, quality & reliability metrics. Your responsibilities will be varied working with manufacturing, supply chain, quality & new product development. You will be confident collaborating in an agile manner across departments, comfortable working with ambiguity and able to adapt to evolving needs.

About the role

• Proactively lead change within existing product portfolio because of warranty, sustainability, supplier, or legislation changes.

• In this hands-on role, you will evaluate and action design changes. Undertake necessary prototyping & validation to identify risk areas and provide confidence in changes considering impact on product approvals.

• Be the technical expert providing support to multiple departments i.e. manufacturing / purchasing / approvals This could include line stoppages, manufacturing & supplier product related issues &/or improvements.

• Work collaboratively with customer service to monitor field issues, analysis of product returns, taking appropriate action to resolve with escalation where appropriate.

• Lead by example, proactively using facts & data decision making, whilst avoiding over analysis. Identify patterns in user issues and implement solutions to root causes, not just quick fixes.

• Provide constructive feedback to product and engineering teams about potential product enhancements or areas of improvement, based on user feedback and your own insights!

• Support the New Product Development process to ensure that lessons learnt are shared.

• Being actively engaged with New Product Development (NPD) along with CPD Quality Engineering Specialist to ensure successful handover to production.

• Own, identify & evaluate VE opportunities within their area of responsibility, ensure that optimal solutions are driven through.

• Research of relevant technical developments from various sources including technical literature, suppliers, standards authorities, approvals etc.

• Drives continuous improvement and support wider business activities, e.g. early career programmes, stewardship etc.

• The position reports into the CPD manager and sits within a multi-disciplinary team touching upon functions including mechanical engineering, marketing, approvals, industrial design.

• The role will primarily be onsite in Cheltenham to support the business.

About you

You will be actively contributing to the development of the current product portfolio and technologies for Kohler Co. For this you will need to be curious and tenacious individual with a drive to experiment and develop next generation showering experiences.

Key Requirements:

• Qualified Engineer, with a mechanical bias, who has gained experience through either an apprenticeship or higher education.

• Proven history with at least 7 years' experience in a similar industry.

• Possess the ability to apply engineering theory and logic, balanced with a direct, creative approach to problem solving.

• Solid communicator with both internally and externally, who can translate technical concepts & data into easy-to-understand language.

• Working knowledge of FMEA’s.

• Naturally inquisitive and have an innate ability to identify and solve engineering problem.

• Demonstrate commercial aptitude in understanding feasibility, desirability and viability whilst also considering time, cost, and quality factors.

• Highly self- motivated, proactive and results driven with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Confident managing multiple and often competing priorities.

• Travel will be required to support business needs.

Desirable Requirements

• 3D / 2D CAD (Computer Aided Design), preferably Creo Parametric

• Prior experience working in a CPD environment.

• Experience with identifying collaboration and partnership opportunities.

• Working appreciation of electronic and electrical systems.
