Job Description Summary

At the Power Distribution and Controls Centre of Excellence based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, we design & develop systems for aircraft power distribution and controls. Our engineers are working on: researching cutting edge technologies for tomorrows products, looking for ways to adapt existing technologies to solve today’s complex technical problems and developing systems to deliver cost effective quality solutions to solve Aviation’s toughest challenges. These systems contain a wide mixture of electro mechanical switches, digital and analogue circuits ranging from embedded processor systems, high accuracy measurement systems to high power solid state switching products.

Working as part of a multi-disciplined team, the candidate will make a significant contribution to electronics hardware development activities for complex power distribution, control and displays products across a range of programs. The successful candidate will apply their experience and expertise to understand product requirements and provide robust engineering solutions, in

alignment with business objectives, to delight the customer. This role would be ideal for someone looking to develop leadership skills.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Apply solid engineering principles to electronics design, analysis, and verification activities, compliant to robust product requirements and relevant business practices and procedures.

  • Work closely with the technical lead to ensure that technical effort is on track, providing timely communications on significant issues or developments

  • Author detailed technical documentation consistent with engineering policies and procedures

  • Provide guidance and coaching in area of expertise to other team members and actively contribute to process improvement activities

  • Individual contributor to technical and customer reviews as required

Required Qualifications

  • Relevant Engineering Degree (or equivalent), with full lifecycle domain expertise

  • Significant experience in the use of Schematic/PCB and Circuit Simulation tools

  • Strong problem solving and solution building skills

  • Ability to clearly communicate complex design concepts – both orally and written

  • Willing to work on military platforms

  • Pro-active team player with the potential to develop as a technical lea

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in NPI electronics design for aviation or similar safety critical applications

  • Familiarity with engineering tools including Xpedition, SIMetrix, DOORS, Windchill

  • Familiar with Design for Manufacture/Test (DFM/DFT) considerations

  • Experience of coaching and mentoring junior engineers and apprentices
