Actalent Mechanical Engineer in Cadillac, Michigan

Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob Description

The Mechanical Engineer will be working primarily on the shelter product line, which includes both small and large assemblies. Responsibilities include working with aluminum extrusions and sheet metal skins, as well as creating drawings of the shelter assemblies for manufacturability. The shelters often include air conditioner units, generators, and other devices for the troops. The role involves spending about 30-50% of the time on the manufacturing floor conducting continuous improvement initiatives, such as scrap reduction and run-at rate reduction. The other 50-70% of the time will be spent at the desk working on designs, completing and updating budgets, and quoting projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the shelter product line including small and large assemblies

  • Handle aluminum extrusions and sheet metal skins

  • Create manufacturability drawings of shelter assemblies

  • Integrate air conditioner units, generators, and other devices into shelters

  • Spend 30-50% of time on the manufacturing floor conducting continuous improvement initiatives

  • Collaborate with the production team to understand the assembly process

  • Participate in engineering meetings

  • Spend 50-70% of time at the desk working on designs for manufacturability

  • Complete and update budgets and quote projects

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Manufacturing Engineering experience in an internship or work environment

  • CAD Design Experience

  • Experience with Bill of Materials (BOM)

  • Proficiency with Creo

  • Familiarity with defense industry standards

  • Experience with process routings

  • Experience with testing and calibration

Work Environment

This role will be fully on-site, involving a mix of office cubicle and manufacturing floor environments. The position expects 40-hour work weeks with flexible working hours, typically starting at 7 or 8 AM. As a consultant, you will have the opportunity to work on military equipment sent across the world in a facility that processes raw materials all the way to the end product. The role involves a mix of design, manufacturing, and mechanical engineering, and requires working cross-functionally with different teams.
