Vera Therapeutics National Director, Medical Science Liaison in Brisbane, California

Title: National Director, Medical Science Liaison Location: Brisbane, California or Remote About Us: Vera Therapeutics (Nasdaq: VERA), is a late-stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for serious immunological diseases. Vera’s lead product candidate is atacicept, a fully humanized fusion protein self-administered at home as a subcutaneous injection once weekly that blocks both B-cell Activating Factor (BAFF) and A Proliferation Inducing Ligand (APRIL), which stimulate B cells and plasma cells to produce galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1) and associated autoantibodies, which together form immune complexes that are fundamental in the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Vera is also considering evaluating the role of atacicept in other immunologic disorders. Additionally, Vera is developing MAU868, a monoclonal antibody designed to neutralize infection with BK Virus, a polyomavirus that can have devastating consequences in certain settings such as kidney transplant. Position Summary: We are seeking a National Director, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to join an experienced, fast-paced, and collaborative team. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs, this role will be responsible for establishing a long-term vision and strategy for the MSL team at Vera Therapeutics. While preparing to scale, this role will partner and closely support the Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs and Vice President, Commercial Strategy on areas such as: key opinion leaders (KOL) engagement, conferences, and other projects as assigned. The National Director, MSL will be responsible for facilitating education on related diseases and collaborating to support our clinical trials. The National Director, MSL will have overall responsibility for the future building, leading, and supporting of the medical field force. While managing and providing strategic direction for the MSL team, this position will also focus on developing relationships with the external scientific and medical community. Responsibilities: • Collaborate with other members of the Medical Affairs team on congress planning and development of educational programs. • Act as major contributor with respect to defining and helping establish relationships with external communities such as KOLs. • Use both advanced functional and business knowledge to effectively align MSL team's work with other leaders to accomplish functional and cross-functional business goals and objectives. • Manage and help build an MSL team made up of diverse top talent and evaluate appropriate size and geography for the team over time. • May travel up to 30% as needed. Qualifications: • PharmD, PhD., in Life Sciences, or M.D. • Minimum 5 years of Medical Affairs experience. • Minimum of 5 years MSL leadership experience (National level preferred) leading teams to consistently achieve team and individual success. • Experience in facilitating external relationships and a track record of success interacting with key internal and external stakeholders. • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of organization and externally. • Strong background in immunology or renal diseases. • Excellent leadership and influencing skills with ability to think creatively and innovatively. • Team-player comfortable in fast-moving, dynamic environments. For this role, the anticipated base pay range is $261,000 - $300,000. The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geography, qualifications, skills, and experience. At Vera, base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate will be eligible for an annual performance incentive bonus, new hire equity, and ongoing performance-based equity.
