About the role

This position provides process design, implementation/commissioning services and maintenance support of manufacturing processes and equipment. Process services may include equipment specification, process design, and product development/improvement as well as knowledge of continuous improvement principles. The Process Controller is cognizant and understanding of food and employee safety and ensures application in their daily functions.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyze process requirements and evaluates equipment and systems to ensure deliverables meet or exceed process specifications and manufacturing requirements.

  • Understand and apply general principles of continuous improvement when possible. Measure and systematize processes, reduce variations, defects, cycle time etc.

  • Use general continuous improvement tools – 5S, Kaizen etc.

  • Evaluate and recommend new process technologies that optimize performance, are cost effective, and will improve product quality and manufacturing techniques.

  • Analyze trends and reports on data generated to characterize scale-up and performance/functionality of processes and to improve product/process quality, consistency, productivity, efficiency, and risk levels.

  • Work closely with other specialists, including: personnel responsible for the quality control of raw materials, intermediates and finished products; engineers responsible for plant maintenance; commercial colleagues on product specifications and production schedules; and the operating crew.

  • Make observations and taking measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved.

  • Prepare reports, flow diagrams and charts.

  • Collaborate with Production and Human Resources in the development of work instructions and training plans.

  • Monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of a plant.

  • Review existing data to see if more research and information need to be collated, and assess the adequacy of the existing processes and equipment

  • Responsible for documentation of operations.

  • Execute and document hands-on production trials in the manufacturing area.

  • Ensure the process works at the optimum level, to the right rate and quality of output, in order to meet supply needs.

  • Ensure that all aspects of an operation or process meet specified regulations.

  • Liaise with process engineers, perhaps working on associated plants.

  • Meet/exceed requirements for food and employee safety.

    About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Food Science, Food Technology, Industrial Engineering or an equivalent field).

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the field of similar function/position – preferably a food manufacturing environment.

  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office software.

  • Experience working with minimal supervision.

  • Experience with SAP an asset.

  • Bilingual (English/French) an asset.

    Environmental / Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to freely move around entire facility.

  • Must be able to lift 55 lbs

  • Ability to work in and be exposed to heat.
