Summary
Reporting directly to the Vice President for Research, the Director of Research Operations will be responsible for oversight and management of division-wide activities. Working with the VPR, the RO Director will manage the divisional budget, budget approval processes, hiring, and communications. Director of Research Operations will be a member of the Division of Research Leadership Team, supporting strategic planning efforts, implementation of future services, and outcome metrics.
Essential Functions
• Coordinates, collects, and prepares budget-related materials and provides preliminary review of budget requests; prepares budget information for the VPR and Division management; oversees establishment/management of internal awards: monitors expenditures made against all salary and operating budgets; and maintains appropriate records.
• Ensures the accuracy and legitimacy of all divisional expenditures to comply with University policy and procedure. Makes budget recommendations to the VPR relative to budget allocations to other units.
• Collects data and prepares a budget analysis to advise the VPR on short term and long-term financial planning.
• Oversees and monitors operational activities for the division, such as p-card transactions and entries, Chrome River entries, Falcons Purch transactions, requisitions, supply inventories/ordering, hiring processes, personnel action forms, and organization of divisional staff meetings.
• Manages the Division's communication strategy to increase awareness of BGSU's activities and accomplishments in research. Working in close collaboration with Marketing and Brand Strategy (MBS), develops, drafts, and updates content for Division websites and print materials; and interacts with faculty and academic units to identify potential content.
• Monitors administrative workflows and processes with a view toward innovation and efficiency. Develop long-term operational strategies, working closely with Senior Leadership, to meet Division of Research objectives.
• Generates reports to support divisional and university-wide efforts. Employs data analytics and assessments to produce evaluative reports.
• Chairs and serves on internal and external committees or project teams as invited/assigned.
• Supervises unit staff and students.
• Provides direct, executive-level support to the Vice President for Research. As a key member of leadership, often engages in direct communications with both internal and external stakeholders, either on behalf of the Vice President for Research or as the Director of Research Operations.
• Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Research.
Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required:
• Bachelor's Degree Required. Degree must be conferred at time of application.
The following Experience is required:
• 5 years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following areas:
