Job Summary

A full-time Professional Research Assistant (PRA) position is available in the Behavioral Neuroscience Program at the University of Colorado Boulder. The PRA will join a research team conducting studies directed at identifying experiential factors that produce resilience to the outcomes of stress. The candidate will help conduct studies that include viral-based approaches for neural circuit targeting, such as chemogenetics and fiber photometry.

The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience is composed of Faculty, Staff, Research Assistants, Graduate Students, and Undergraduate Students. Through teaching, learning, research, and community outreach, we seek to promote scholarship at the intersection of psychology and neuroscience. The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience is responsible for over 3,200 students in two majors and five PhD programs. Our 52 faculty teach and conduct research on topics that range from the molecular to the community level. Our work is spread across three locations (MUEN, WILD, & CINC), with an annual budget of $20 million, which includes approximately $12 million in grant-funded research and $600,000 in gift funds.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The candidate will join a research team conducting studies directed at identifying experiential factors (e.g., coping with stress, exercise) that produce resistance/resilience to the outcomes of stress. The Baratta laboratory uses experimental techniques for the monitoring (in vivo microdialysis, fiber photometry) and manipulation (chemogenetics) of discrete neural circuits during rodent behavior. The PRA will support day-to-day research projects, organization and maintenance of laboratory equipment, supplies, and reagents, data collection and statistical analysis. Successful candidates should (i) have a background in neuroscience or related biological science field; (ii) be comfortable working with rodents in a research setting; and (iii) be able to commit at least 2 years of work.

Successful candidates should (i) have a background in neuroscience or related biological science field; (ii) be comfortable working with rodents in a research setting; and (iii) be able to commit at least 2 years of work. Candidate qualifications also include excellent communication and organization skills, and the ability to work independently in a collaborative team setting.
