Saint-Gobain Engineering & Maintenance Manager in BLUE DIAMOND, Nevada

What's The Job?

Consistent with the Corporate Objectives, and World Class manufacturing principles, provide leadership to effectively manage maintenance and engineering functions of gypsum wallboard and plaster manufacturing plant. Manage maintenance and organization responsible for plant physical properties including building, grounds, machinery and equipment, in compliance with local, state and federal environmental and fire prevention standards. Manage plant engineering activities concerned with capital expenditure design, cost estimation, capital requests, selection/construction.

  • Key member of the plant management team, reporting directly to the Plant Manager.

  • Provide leadership to all employees within the Maintenance and Engineering areas, including ownership of the Professional Maintenance Pillar.

  • Responsible for budget preparation, planning and scheduling of all maintenance activities.

  • Responsible for all maintenance employees using team building, coaching, and teaching skills and knowledge of TPM to lead the PM activities in expansion of lean manufacturing to all areas of the plant.

  • Has latitude for non-reviewed actions and the exercise of independent judgment and discretion within established policies and procedures. Must obtain prior approval for significant changes to the approved engineering, budget or maintenance plans.

  • Managing all on-site engineers and capital projects while ensuring the utilization of World Class Manufacturing tools and principles.

  • Internal contacts involve all plant teams in the coordination and scheduling of plant repairs, equipment modifications or installations; purchasing and accounting personnel on requisitions and capital request data; and corporate engineering on special projects.

  • External contacts involve vendors for repair parts and services and outside contractors

  • to obtain bids for new facilities or equipment, and the governmental agencies and insurance representative on fire prevention, safety inspection, environmental issues, etc.

  • Significant problem-solving situations involve scheduling of preventative and predictive maintenance programs and the installation, modification and /or repair of equipment in a manner which will assure employee safety, minimize production downtime and assure product quality.

  • Approves expenditures of maintenance supplies and equipment within established parameters.

  • Secures approval for deviations from established policies and procedures, unusual or major requisitions, and/or significant changes affecting plant maintenance (assets) and operations.

  • Prepares and monitors budget for adherence. Assures capital program for the plant is implemented cost effectively and tracked to company standards. Prepares capital cost estimates, capex budget requests, project spending variance reports, purchase orders, as well as invoice approvals. Assures projects achieve business benefit prior to closure.

  • Directly supervises maintenance supervisors and engineering staff, with next level maintenance employees reporting through supervisors.

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and / or equivalent experience which has provided professional knowledge of plant engineering disciplines, such as automated control systems, programmable logic controllers, safety regulations and practices, and professional industrial maintenance experience in 24 hour continuous process environment.

  • Ten plus (10+) years professional, directly related experience.

  • Knowledge of maintenance systems, strong knowledge of SAP functions

  • Experience in planning, budgeting and completing capital projects.

  • Proven leadership skills in industrial management with 5+ years in a supervisory capacity.

  • Strong people development, teaming, and collaborative decision making skills required.

  • Leadership and innovation at all organizational levels, adaptability, customer and supplier focus, excellent written and oral communication.

  • Prefer strong experience interfacing with vendors and outside contractors as well as governmental agencies and compliance inspectors.

  • Experience in implementing & utilizing plant maintenance CMMS, in particular familiarity with SAP, is preferred.
