Job Title: Construction Project EngineerJob Description

Our mid-sized commercial general contractor client is seeking a Construction Project Engineer to join its metro-Detroit team. The Project Engineer will work with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Trades on unique projects that have a direct impact on the community. This role involves a mixture of office and field work and is responsible for a wide range of duties, from ordering and securing materials and deliveries to tracking quantities, reviewing submittals, RFIs, and other critical communications, and assisting Project Managers and Superintendents in all areas where support is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process critical documents like submittals, RFIs, and other project communications.

  • Provide support to Project Managers and Superintendents in various areas.

  • Maintain a deep understanding of project plans, specifications, requirements, and contracts.

  • Assist with document control, estimating, correspondence, expediting, problem-solving, labor cost reporting, and scheduling.

  • Coordinate with subcontractors for on-time and accurate material deliveries.

  • Prepare and distribute project communications such as submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, and more.

  • Continuously learn and implement industry best practices and innovative solutions.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field (preferred)

  • 3+ years of experience as a construction project engineer (preferably at a general contractor)

  • Unwavering commitment to safety practices

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with an adaptable and flexible style for collaborating with diverse personalities

  • Desire for continuous learning and professional growth within the construction field

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Commercial Construction/General Contractor experience

  • Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MISHA) experience/ Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Experience

  • Proficiency in MS Office, Procore, and OpenSpace

  • Knowledge of Procore

Work Environment

Average hours are 8am-5pm, around 45 hours per week. This person will spend 90% of their time at the job site and will receive mileage reimbursement. The company is highly focused on the quality of work and views itself as a smaller/mid-size company that handles big projects. The work involves being on-site for multi-family projects in Detroit and surrounding Metro Detroit, primarily focusing on low-income housing and government-funded/municipal projects. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $38.46/hr.
