The Production Supervisor directs day to day activities and manages the formulations production area. Suggests ways to improve methods and procedures. Responsible for developing, qualifying, and implementing appropriate procedures for assigned projects and tasks. Leads up to 18 direct reports. Manages end-to-end materials conversion process. Overall responsibility for various aspects of material conversion, including quality of product, timely delivery and producing to plan. Also responsible for the safety and well-being of the operation and personnel, including all employees, visitors and contractors. Obtains appropriate resources to ensure safety, integrity and improvement of the process, including, but not limited to IP, IER, DM, SHE and QA/QC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise the day-to-day operations in the plant

  • Provide leadership and direction for the Production department. Develop motivated and competent staff. Ensure effective and open communication.

  • Manage morale and motivation and establish an environment where people at every level can flourish and develop themselves. Create an open culture with dialogue and feedback. Use available surveys (Keil Assessment, Engagement Survey) to drive improvements.

  • Ensure teams follow key work practices such as work permitting for job safety assessments, KPI data entry, SHEQ and Production problem identification and reporting, work order entries, idea generation, 5S, batch record entries, GMP housekeeping, and SOP adjustments.

  • Accountable for the performance and development of the production operators and teams

  • Select, manage, coach and develop staff (training, validation of training through Quiz, appraisals) in line with HR requirements and procedures.

  • SHE Duties & Responsibilities: Displays and promotes positive safety behaviors at all times, use proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safe each day; that area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels; that all people in the area (maintenance, quality, visitors, contractors, etc.) comply with safety directives and keep the area neat and clean. All employees are expected to be aware of and follow all DSM Life Saving Rules.

  • Performs various people manager activities for direct reports such as performance reviews, promotions, pay increase, organizational redesign, vacation and time approvals for shift coverage.

  • Implement dsm-firmenich strategies as they relate to the building and impact the area personnel.

  • Translate strategic topics into goals and actions for the production team members

  • Partners with IP and QA/QC to offer proposals and implements projects to ensure a safe and quality product, raise process capability and reliability, lower costs for material conversion, and meet customer demand.

  • Assures compliance with all Corporate and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO, EPA, NJDEP, OSHA, cGMPs, FDA, IQH-7). Responsible for the review and follow up of all safety/environmental incidents. Ensures Standard Operating Procedures are generated, employees are trained, and information is maintained up to date.

  • Maintains the production schedule and ensures maintenance/ preventative maintenance activities occur in an optimal manner at the same time meeting all plans as created by the production scheduler.

  • Represents area with ability and accurate knowledge during customer, regulatory agency, and internal audits.

  • Supports plant and corporate initiatives as outlined in the manufacturing plan. Follows the manufex work processes.

    You Bring:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in manufacturing operations in a relevant area required; 5 – 10 years’ experience preferred.

  • Prior leadership/supervisory experience preferred.

  • Good working knowledge and usage of math, oral/ written communications, interpersonal skills.

  • Time management and prioritization (gatekeeping) abilities.

  • Technical knowledge to perform responsibilities with minimal guidance.

  • Broad knowledge of quality management.

  • General knowledge of chemistry and/or engineering and/or and biology.

  • Good understanding of general management practices and processes.

  • Knowledge in Good Manufacturing Practices for: Feed, Food, Pharmaceutical Excipient, Dietary Supplement, ICH Q7 for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and Cosmetic Ingredients).

  • Strong interpersonal skills and strong leadership skills

    Job works dayshift, but must be available to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to, inspection/ evaluation or process equipment, systems, and facilities. Travel 10%.
