You'll lead technical projects from conception through completion, mentor junior engineers, and make significant contributions to infrastructure improvements. Beyond day-to-day operations, you'll influence technical direction through rack design collaboration with engineering teams and development of standard operating procedures. The role demands both hands-on technical work and strategic thinking to drive operational improvements and maintain system reliability. Success requires balancing immediate operational needs with long-term infrastructure planning while ensuring consistent standards across multiple global locations.

A day in the life

Your daily activities span across diverse technical challenges and operational needs. You might start by troubleshooting a Windows Server cluster issue while monitoring Linux system updates across multiple facilities. Throughout the day, you'll handle network connectivity problems, whether it's diagnosing TCP/IP issues, configuring switches, or collaborating with network teams on security implementations. You'll write and maintain scripts in both Bash and PowerShell to automate routine tasks and improve system efficiency. Managing hardware requires coordinating new equipment procurement, overseeing rack installations, and ensuring proper inventory tracking across facilities. You will work with Networking team to test and bring up circuits. You'll split time between hands-on work with physical infrastructure and managing cloud-based systems in AWS. Change management is crucial - you'll plan maintenance windows, document procedures, and implement updates while maintaining system uptime.
