Houston Methodist Massage Therapist - PRN Baytown/Med Center in Baytown, Texas

At Houston Methodist, the Massage Therapist position is responsible for providing massages, chair and/or table, to employees, corporate clients and patients of Houston Methodist (HM). This position must have good organizational and communication skills and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age and specific needs of the clients/patients. The Massage Therapist position assumes additional responsibilities that support the growth and professional development of the individual, department, and HM.

Coverage for this PRN Massage Therapist role will be flexible with the following days:

  • Baytown: Wednesday or Thursday (10a-6p schedule)

  • Med center: Mondays with potentially Tuesday (10a-4p schedule)

Commitment for this role at Baytown would be on average 12-16 hours/week and temporary Med Center coverage needed August-December.

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Interacts with patients, staff and other departments in a caring and courteous manner. Provides positive public relations to the hospital staff and community at large.

  • Promotes a positive work environment and functions as a team member, responding willingly and positively to colleagues' needs for assistance and partnership

  • Contributes towards improvement of department scores for turnover/retention/employee satisfaction, i.e. peer-to-peer accountability

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs appropriate chair/table massages for HM employees, corporate clients and patients.

  • Assists in tracking the utilization of massages at all entities and offers suggestions for changes to enhance service.

  • Contributes towards improving department score for patient satisfaction

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Contributes to the development of processes and procedures for massage such as scheduling, payment, forms, feedback, evaluation, etc.

  • Assists in the upkeep and professionalism of the massage rooms. Contributes to the management of massage equipment and supplies. Communicates needs to management as appropriate

  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality of all information within Wellness Services. Considerate of client rights and provides for and maintains privacy and dignity of all clients when giving personal care

  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement providing recommendations impacting quality and safety targets, through peer-to-peer accountability, reporting near misses. Contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains an awareness of cost containment principles in the use of supplies, and equipment. Uses resources efficiently to maximize utilization of time and equipment. Meets labor productivity standards by effectively managing established daily responsibilities and assignments.

  • Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively, minimizing incidental overtime, and prioritize tasks for self

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in Wellness meetings and communicates needs, process and program improvement to enhance and grow the massage therapy program

  • Assists in the promotion and marketing of massage to departments and individuals of HM employees, clients, patients and community members for growth and viability.

  • Offers innovative solutions through participation in performance improvement projects and department shared governance activities. Completes and updates My Development plan on an on-going basis, including the development of advanced skills

EDUCATION

  • Successful completion of the 500-hour massage curriculum approved by the credentialing body for the State of Texas

  • Baccalaureate degree in healthcare or related field preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • One year of experience in massage and experience in a clinical/therapeutic setting

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • CMST - Certified Massage Therapist - State Licensure -- by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) AND

  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations

  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles

  • Must be proficient in several dimensions of massage therapy (Swedish, Therapeutic, Relaxation, etc.)

  • Exhibits strong interpersonal, teamwork with all levels of the healthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers.

  • Possesses proficient computer knowledge

  • Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision including but not limited to organizing workflows and actively participating in problem-solving

  • Must be creative, organized, system oriented and knowledgeable about massage therapy, hospital systems, and delivery of care
