The Role

As a System Administrator at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world.

There’s never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You’ll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You’ll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

10+ years of experience on DB2 LUW

5+ years of experience on MongoDB

Job Description

  • Administrating DB2 LUW database on UNIX, LINUX, WINDOWS as per the requirement.

  • Configuring and maintaining HADR (Primary, Standby database) for production database for Take-over, Fail-over, activating the standby to primary for zero data loss.

  • Applying various databases Fix Pack

  • Performing Online, Offline backups

  • Performing redirect restore of production db to development Server and Quality Server.

  • Applying rollforward recovery on db's to recover data.

  • Database Maintenance utilities like Reorg, Runstat, Reorgchk, Rebind.

  • Performance statistics, managing performance behavior and troubleshooting performance issues.

  • Export/import, Load utility to migrate data across schemas, tables.

  • Performance tuning using db2advis and db2expln tools.

  • Troubleshooting db performance related issues using MONREPORT module reports, taking Snapshot, db2diag, db2pd, db2top.

  • Performing housekeeping of archive logs.

  • Monitoring the Databases, tablespaces, and db2 db2diag logs for database errors using Tivoli tool.

  • Troubleshooting db2 errors and contacting IBM PMR support for bug fixes.

  • Implement appropriate indexes for performance improvement.

  • Fine-tune configurations – MongoDB and servers for performance improvement.

  • Implement optimal backup and recovery.

  • Understand and optimize query performance.

  • Create and publish database health checks to monitoring systems for the following:

  • Identify slow queries

  • Replication lags

  • Node failures

  • Index usage patterns

  • CPU usage

  • Memory usage

  • Locks

  • Number of connections

  • Any other relevant params

  • Evaluate, plan and perform the DB upgrades.

  • Maintenance – during release/outage etc.

  • Implementing best practices for backups, replication, and health checks.

  • Database hardening – implement best practices.

  • Should be having hands-on on MongoDB Cluster.

  • Design and implement DR plans & HA solutions and recommendations.

  • Work closely with the application team to understand what changes are coming in a build/patch/hotfix, do an impact analysis, fine-tune the queries if any.

  • Automate the process of deploying DB changes so that we can support this for a new build/patch/hotfix.

  • Act as an application DB during the design process.

  • Understand the lifecycle of infrastructure project (Design, Implement, Transition and Operation) In-depth understanding of DB2 LUW, MongoDB and troubleshooting experience with the ability to analyze technical problems to prevent future occurrence.

  • Strong Understanding on Application, Database and Network integration

  • Responsible to develop and maintain Availability Plans which prioritizes and plans IT availability.

  • Monitor IT availability levels by comparing actual levels against targets and addressing shortfalls.

  • System Thinking end-to-end - Broad understanding of enterprise architectures and complex (backend) systems (understand more than the component itself)

  • Understanding of systems from a reliability perspective. Ability to root cause sources of instability in a high-traffic, distributed system.

  • Passion for resolving reliability issues and identify strategies to mitigate going forward.

  • Understanding and practical working experience of operating systems / hypervisor internals are familiar with the TCP/IP stack, network routing and load balancing. Experience with configuration and troubleshooting

  • Responsibilities include Participate as a Technical Leadership during the critical and Major incidents and Root cause.

  • Demonstrated experience in handling day-to-day Server and operating system break-fix support, changes and Critical Client Impacting situations
