Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia

The Azure WAN (Wide Area Network) Team is growing and we’re looking for a creative and detail oriented engineer who can combine networking experience with software development fundamentals. We’re passionate about automating every facet of the network to drive growth, ensure seamless connectivity and deliver user experiences. We seek a Software Engineer who shares our passion and can approach problems from a customer’s perspective, creating user experiences that genuinely enable and empower our partners.

Focusing on the global backbone network and collaborating closely with partner teams in Azure Networking, you’ll play a crucial role in designing, developing, and building networking and automation components for the Wide Area Network. You will oversee these components from the initial design phase through development and buildout. This high-visibility position, within a rapidly growing and heavily invested area of Microsoft Azure, presents an opportunity for both technical and career advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.

  • Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.

  • With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.

  • Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.

  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or C#

  • OR Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.
