Administration for Children and Families Head Start Program Specialist in Atlanta, Georgia

Summary This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia. Responsibilities WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Head Start Program Specialist, you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by: Conducting risk assessments of grantee performance in coordination with Office of Grants Management (OGM). Assessing grantee performance through on-site visits, discussion or analysis of performance. Informing supervisor of any program or fiscal patterns or isolated abnormalities that suggest a grantee may be at risk for implementing its program as approved. Making recommendations to supervisor for improvement consistent with Federal compliance requirements. Collecting and analyzing data, provides information and advice, and prepares, updates, and monitors. Leading and/or participating in program monitoring reviews for the purpose of assessing grantee performance and compliance with Federal regulations and program goals and objectives. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Basic Qualifications: You must meet one of the items listed below (A, B, or C): A. Possess a degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position (Must provide transcripts). B. Possess a combination of education and experience -- that provided you with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field (Must provide transcript). C. Possess four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. AND Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing three (3) of the following: - Providing oversight of activities of early learning program operations to update management of progress. - Utilizing analysis data to make recommendations for operational improvements. - Providing guidance and technical assistance to grantees on Head Start regulations, policies, and procedures. - Preparing reports, memorandum, and/or other written responses for management and staff on operations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
