Job Title: Project Engineer

Job Description

The Project Engineer will design custom material handling machines and manage the entire project lifecycle from the concept provided by the sales team. They will engineer and design the machine in SolidWorks, select appropriate components, perform all drawings, and make any necessary design modifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design custom and standard equipment based on a thorough understanding of customers’ specifications and application needs using commonly accepted engineering practices and current industry standards.

  • Work with the engineering team to design machine control systems to meet customer specifications and application requirements, including understanding electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system schematics.

  • Provide engineering information and complete design documentation for manufacturing, and follow up as necessary for timely and cost-effective equipment manufacture.

  • Offer engineering expertise and support to the machine design team.

  • Troubleshoot and solve problems on equipment in design, fabrication, assembly, and field installations.

  • Actively pursue and develop positive, long-term customer relationships by providing the highest level of customer service.

  • Work closely with vendors to stay up to date on leading-edge technologies that could be used in the equipment.

  • Collaborate with management to achieve department goals related to product quality, project schedule, and corporate financial objectives.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in custom machine design.

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.

  • Hydraulic and pneumatic experience.

  • FEA / Structural Analysis - capable of performing calculations related to structures and loads.

  • Experience managing projects from start to finish, including ERP, BOM, and material handling.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP systems and BOM creation.

  • Material handling experience (e.g., bulk bag filling, dischargers, feeders, hoppers).

  • Engineering degree.

Work Environment

The Project Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager. The team consists of about 40 employees, including 6 mechanical engineers and 2 electrical engineers. While there are no direct reports, the Project Engineer will assign workloads to designers and detailers, establish timelines, and oversee their work. The work week is typically 45 hours, with time split evenly between design work and project management.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $43.27/hr.
