Custodial Worker, Maintenance of Public Buildings

Annual Salary Range: $24,960.00 - $29,952.00 Grade: 11 (Employee: 7% on your current salary, whichever is greater; or 10.5% on your current salary, whichever is greater, if position is 3 grades or higher than current position). Appointment to a position in the classified service shall be at the minimum of the corresponding pay range unless otherwise approved.

Examination is announced to establish an employment list to fill vacancies in the Maintenance Public Buildings department and future vacancies, as they occur, to perform various cleaning and maintenance activities required in and around public facilities;

dusting, vacuuming, and or washing of fixtures, furnishings, windows, and walls; removes and disposes of waste; waxes and polishes floors. Cleans restrooms and replenishes restroom supplies. Changes light bulbs; unstops sinks and toilets; paints in and around buildings where journeyman painting skills are not required; reports other needed repairs to the facility manager, moves furniture as requested; runs errands; delivers supplies. Prepares facilities for meetings and related functions; loads, unloads, sets up, and erects area bleachers, chairs, tables, stages, and other required equipment and fixtures; moves furniture and equipment; performs physical setup of special events/activities; installs, erects, or hangs holiday decorations; assists with traffic control during event; cleanups after events.

Minimum Applicant Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED is preferred; some experience in janitorial or custodial work is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess a valid drivers license.

Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana drivers license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.

Work Hours:

40 Hours per week, may work weekends and holidays

This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants. Examination notices will be sent out via email with a testing date, time, and location. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment.
