Our Team
The Horizon team is the Data Warehouse that OCI uses to collate, manage, and make sense of petabytes of engineering data. Our platform is a core component of OCI, and its private cloud offerings, offering a self-service data platform that engineering teams and other partners use to inform decisions that affect nearly every aspect of the OCI business: engineering, support, operations, finance, reporting and more.
Your Opportunity
Apply your extensive technical expertise and architectural skills to evolve and scale the Horizon platform. You will solve difficult problems in distributed, highly available micro-services and virtualized infrastructure, leveraging software, data, and devops skills.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a strong principal engineer with expertise in database (querying, performance tuning, internals) with a focus on software development, data engineering, and devops. This engineer should also possess strong development & automation skills; someone with a passion for solving difficult problems in distributed systems and highly available services. This is a critical role, so we’re looking for an experienced candidate who can keep help solve database problems, deliver product features on-time and with high quality and can partner with other engineers to deliver high quality services.

Responsibilities
As a Principal Software Development Engineer, you will own the DB development and automation piece of this OCI team. You should be both a rock-solid coder and a database expert, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low-level systems and help solve problems. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn. Engineers with systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, a sense of ownership, and drive have been very happy with this role/team.
Minimum Qualifications :
10+ years of database, and software development experience with distributed systems within large-scale environments.
Strong knowledge of Database development (SQL/PL-SQL), Database performance tuning, Data Warehouse.
Proficient in coding (we use Java) and experience with scripting languages like bash.
Experience working on large-scale, highly distributed services infrastructure.
Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills (Database).
Experience designing architectures that demonstrate deep technical depth in one area, or span many products, to enable high availability, scalability, market-leading features and flexibility to meet future business demands.
Able to effectively communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing (technical proposals, design specs, architecture diagrams and presentations).
Familiarity with cloud architecture, virtualization
Preferred Qualifications :
Oracle DB expertise (version 19c or newer)
Knowledge or orchestration tool such as Terraform, Chef, Ansible is a strong plus.
Proficiency in OCI database services (Autonomous Database, DBaaS, Exadata Cloud Service).
Demonstrable knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, distributed systems fundamentals, and cloud-native development.
Working familiarity with operating systems internals, networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.
Experience mentoring junior developers
Experience building multi-tenant, virtualized infrastructure, a strong plus.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
